The Kannapolis Intimidators dropped a doubleheader to the visiting Hagerstown Suns on Sunday.
Kannapolis lost 7-2 and 4-3 in two seven-inning SAL games.
Kannapolis outfielder Michael Suiter went 0-for-2 in the opener, ending his 23-game hitting streak, a record for the Intimidators.
Kannapolis took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the opener but couldn’t hold on. Jose Marmolejos belted a grand slam for the Suns.
The Intimidators begin a seven-game road trip at Asheville today, with three games against the Tourists and four against the Savannah Sand Gnats. Kannapolis returns home on Aug. 25.

Minor leagues
Craig Brooks (Catawba), a seventh-round draft pick by the Chicago Cubs in June, has dominated in recent relief appearances for the Eugene Emeralds.
In his last three outings, Brooks has struck out nine in four innings, while allowing no hits and one walk.
Brooks (2-0) has struck out 16 and walked two as a pro. He was the winning pitcher on Saturday.
Peeler update
Joseph Peeler (East Rowan) was a 25th-round pick by Seattle in June.
The 18-year-old pitched well for the Mariners rookie team in Arizona on Saturday. He threw a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.

Prep volleyball
The season gets under way today. Games include East Rowan at North Rowan and Carson at Davie.

Prep soccer
Boys soccer games scheduled for Monday include Davie at West Rowan and Central Cabarrus at A.L. Brown.
Salisbury opens at home on Tuesday against East Rowan.
Also on Tuesday, South Rowan takes on Carolina International, a charter school in Cabarrus County.
Barry West, former assistant principal at South Rowan, is now the AD and assistant principal at Carolina International.
Carolina International is in its 12th year of education, but this will be the school’s debut in terms of high school athletics. The school will field soccer and volleyball teams this season.
The Comets will debut in high school volleyball against Concord First Assembly on Thursday.
Carolina International’s Comets will play a home soccer match on Thursday against West Stanly.
Their volleyball and basketball games will be played at the Annie Streater Dream Center on the campus of New Life Baptist Church.

American Legion
Southeast Regional champ South Carolina rallied from a 6-0 deficit and beat Connecticut 7-6 on Sunday. The dramatic comeback pushed South Carolina into the World Series semifinals.
Today’s semifinals in Shelby are set.
Oregon (3-0 in pool play) takes on South Carolina (2-1) at 4 p.m.
Louisiana (3-0) takes on defending champion New Jersey (2-1) at 7 p.m.

Softball World Series
In games on Sunday, Uganda beat Puerto Rico 10-0, Rhode Island knocked off Texas 4-1, and Washington beat Iowa 4-3 on a walkoff. Rowan Little League (2-1) plays Washington (3-0) today at 7 and has to win to have a chance to advance to the semifinals.

Rowan Little League is currently taking sign-ups through Aug. 25th at Godley’s
Garden Center for its Fall Baseball and Girls Softball leagues.

Fall ball is for ages 3 to 12. Cost is $50. Baseball ages are as of April 30,
2016 and softball ages are as of December 31, 2015.
Games begin after Labor Day.
