Area Sports Briefs: SC Legion loses for first time

Legion World Series
Southeast Regional champ South Carolina’s 29-game winning streak ended Saturday with a 5-2 loss to Louisiana in Shelby on Saturday.
Losing pitcher Danton Hyman had three hits for South Carolina.
South Carolina (1-1) could still be one of the teams to advance from pool play if it beats Connecticut (0-2) today at 1 p.m.
Oregon (3-0) beat Hawaii 2-1 in Saturday’s early game.
Oregon won three straight low-scoring, one-run games to lock up a berth in the semifinals.
Hawaii is 1-1 in pool play.
Defending champ New Jersey (1-1) bounced back from a first-round loss to maul Nebraska 15-1. Nebraska is 0-3 in pool play.

Softball World Series
Rhode Island beat Puerto Rico 10-9 in a wild game on Saturday evening.
Both teams are 1-1 in pool play.

Intimidators
The Kannapolis Intimidators were rained out on Saturday and will play two seven-inning games today.
First pitch is at 3 p.m. for a doubleheader with Hagerstown.

Lex. Hall of Fame
The Lexington Senior High School Hall of Fame announced its fourth class of inductees.
The induction class includes Ronnie Beverly, Anna Hayes, Randy Holmes, Scott Perkins and Gary Whitman.
Ceremonies are set for Sept. 4 at Philpott Memorial Stadium.
The Hall recognizes athletes from Dunbar and Lexington high schools.
