A Salisbury man was charged Wednesday following a fender bender at the intersection of Klumac and Julian roads. He received minor injuries, but totaled his vehicle, officials said.

Dana Norris Sherrill, 64, of the 400 block of Sunset Drive, was charged by the N.C. Highway Patrol with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Trooper C.J. Doty said Sherrill was traveling an estimated 30 mph hour when he failed to slow down in time to avoid hitting a Pate-Dawson Company food truck in front of him. The crash occurred around 11:11 a.m.

The food truck was driven by Garrett Wayne Price, 25, of Statesville. Both men were wearing their seatbelts. Sherrill and Price were both traveling West on Julian Road. Price was stopped at the traffic light.

The trooper said Sherrill’s front airbags did deploy in his GMC Suburban and he received a minor injury to his forearm. Sherrill was treated at the scene but refused to be taken via ambulance to the hospital.

There was very little damage to the food truck, but Doty said Sherrill’s SUV was totaled. Sherrill’s vehicle had to be towed from the scene. It had heavy front end damage.
