A Shelby man was charged with heroin possession Wednesday morning after someone alerted police that people were crushing pills in a vehicle parked at the McDonald’s parking lot.

Salisbury Police charged Kyle Alexander Parker, 25, of the 300 block of Grice Street, with felony possession of a controlled substance schedule I.

Officials say the incident happened at 12:15 a.m. at 704 E. Innes St., at which time an officer saw three people sitting inside a Honda. The officer asked for identification from all of the occupants, two of whom seemed impaired.

Officers searched the front passenger’s seat, where Parker had been sitting. An officer found .4 grams of black tar heroin, a syringe, as well as a silver spoon with some heroin residue on it and a green balloon. A soda can with a hole cut into it was found in the center console.

Randy Wayne Murray, 30, of the 1700 block of North Post Road, Apt. B, Shelby, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia after officials found a syringe in his pocket.

Parker was issued a $2,500 secured bond and has since been released from the Rowan County Detention Center. In 2012, he was convicted of felony larceny in Cleveland County.
