Benefit wine tasting for Families First on Friday
From 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 31, Salisbury Wine Shop will host a benefit wine tasting for the Families First of Rowan County with Andrew Alley of 17th Street Distributing.

— 6-10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1: Wine and beer menu showcase featuring the music of Gigi Dover and Eric Lovell. Local duo Dalton and Liam will kick things off at 6 p.m. followed at 7:30 p.m. by Gigi Dover and Eric Lovell, whose music has been described as “Gypsy Soul meets Russian Carnival.”
— Mean Mug Summer Fest, 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2: Special open mic all afternoon with musical hosts Dalton and Liam. Musicians, poets, storytellers are invited to come and share. Sign-up starts at 3 p.m. Andrew Dionne and the Kabobs Mobile Food Truck will be out front. There will be sidewalk paint and bubbles for the kids. Neighboring store, Fun Finds On Fulton, 1026 S. Fulton, will have fun activities such as hoop dancing and massage with Katie Hopkins, yoga and wellness with Jacqui Shive, personal trainer/fit boxing coach with Jack Belliveau, martial arts/fit boxing coach with Ethan Howard, a raffle to benefit Paws Dog Park, as well as a lemonade stand.
DjAaronS to host Sunday night event again

Salisbury resident Aaron T. Sewell (aka DjAaronS), stage 4 cancer survivor and 2013-14 OCAA (Our Community Achievement) award-winning deejay (Benchwarmers, Firewater, JC Price Post 107) — who is also an avid record collector, music lover and art enthusiast — recently donated 200 of his personally mixed, mastered and packaged CDs to JC Price Post in exchange for free entry into the JC Price Post Summer Jam, in order to raise funds for at-risk youth in the neighboring community.
Due to the success of the recent July 5th Summer Jam fundraising event which Sewell hosted there, Commander Ollie Mae Carroll and officers awarded him a certificate of appreciation and elected to re-open the Post for its Historic Sunday nights and feature DjAaronS. The Sunday night event had closed in January due to lack of operational funds, after being open for more than 60 years.
Sewell plans to add featured packages and festive themes (such as balloons, up lighting and other surprise features) in order bring a transformed atmosphere and added flair to these events.
These event are geared toward mature adults only and doors will re-open on Sunday, Aug. 2. Admission is $5. Dress code is neat and casual. Absolutely no athletic gear or baseball caps will be allowed.
Gene Mccombs shares ‘From Town to City’ on Monday
KANNAPOLIS — Kannapolis History Associates hosts an evening with Gene McCombs speaking on “From Town To City: How did we start up our new city?”
Travel back to 1984 and hear from Kannapolis’ first City Manager about the transition from town to city. Hear memories, challenges, successes and favorite stories from the man who was there, leading the way as the small mill village town became an incorporated city.

Call for volunteers — At the Rowan-Cabarrus Walk to End Alzheimer’s, help at the check-in, tee-shirt table, memory garden or just cheer walkers on along the route.
