Area Sports Briefs: Intimidators win 1-0

Luis Martinez spun a career-high eight scoreless innings of two-hit ball to pitch the Intimidators to a 1-0 win over the BlueClaws on Monday night at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood.
Kannapolis (51-49) earned its South Atlantic League-leading 13th shutout win of the season.
Martinez (4-9) became just the fourth Kannapolis pitcher to work at least eight complete innings, surpassing his previous career-long outing o on May 2, on his way to earning the win. He allowed just two hits — both singles — while walking one and striking out four. Matt Cooper tossed a perfect ninth inning for the save (10).
The Intimidators wrap up the four-game series in Lakewood on Tuesday at 11:05 a.m.
Brooks update
Craig Brooks (Catawba) pitched a scoreless inning in the Arizona League in his last outing and struck out two.
Local golf
Davis Richards shot 13-under for two rounds and won the Warrior’s club championship.
Youth softball
Rowan County’s 9-10 softball team won regional games against South Carolina and Florida.

West girls camp
Lady Falcons Basketball Camp will be held from Aug. 3-6 from 4-7 p.m. at West Rowan High.
The camp is for rising 4th-9th graders.
The cost is $40.

Local tennis
Ben Childress won the boys 12’s USTA junior tennis tournament at the Country Club of Salisbury.
Childress won his first match 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 and won his 2nd match 6-0, 6-1
The tournament will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday.
South football
South Rowan Youth Football Camp will be held on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 9 until noon.
The camp is for rising kindergarten-8th grade.
The cost is $25 per child with a $5 discount for siblings.
