‘ROO Ride’ raises funds for troops, families, veterans

ROCKWELL — Last Saturday, July 18, from 9 a.m.-noon, local motorcyclists rode in support of military families in the Kangaroo Express Salute Our Troops “ROO Ride.”

The ride started at the Kangaroo Express, located at 264 E. Main St., Rockwell, and the event was part of the company’s fifth anniversary Salute Our Troops fund-raising campaign.

Guests to Kangaroo Express stores are being encouraged to make donations to the campaign at checkout counters through Sept. 8.

For the July 18 event, ROO Ride participants were asked for a $10 donation, and the first 100 to register received Salute Our Troops T-shirts. All ROO Riders also received a complimentary Jimmy Dean sausage and 20-ounce Bean Street Coffee, along with a free Ball Park hot dog, chips and drink after the ride.

A custom Salute Our Troops Harley Sportster Bike was on display at the Rockwell store during the event. The custom bike will be presented to a deserving veterans at the end of the summer. All summer long, store guests and campaign supporters are being invited to vote for their favorite nominee on Facebook.

The service member receiving the most votes by Sept. 2 will win the bike. To vote, visit www.facebook.com/kangarooexpress.

Since starting in 2011, Salute Our Troops has raised more than $10 million. Donations are providing assistance to service members and their families in times of crisis and supporting veterans in hospitals throughout the Southeast.
