Area Sports Briefs: Intimidators win 3-2

Starting pitcher Thad Lowry won his 10th game of the season, and Ryan Leonards went 3-for-4 as the Kannapolis Intimidators beat visiting Hagerstown 3-2 on Monday afternoon.
Lowry pitched seven innings and allowed three hits and two runs.
He’s the first Intimidator to notch 10 wins in a season since 2011. Matt Cooper earned a save.
Ethan Gross, Louis Silverio and Michael Danner drove in runs for Kannapolis.
Jeff Gardner homered for the Suns.
The Intimidators are off Tuesday and begin a seven-game road trip Wednesday in Greensboro.
Kannapolis is back home on July 30.

East-West basketball
The East boys beat the West 122-115 on Monday in Greensboro in the highest-scoring East-West All-Star Game in history.
East Carolina signee Kentrell Barkley (Northern Durham) had 26 points and 11 rebounds for the East. MVP Jacque Brown (East Carteret), who signed with Mount Olive, scored 25 points. N.C. State recruit Shaun Kirk (Whiteville) scored 23. Winston-Salem State-bound Rob Brown (Millbrook) added 20.
UNC recruit Luke Maye (Hough) had 16 points and 15 rebounds for the West. UNC Wilmington signee C.J. Bryce (North Meck) scored 22 points.
Girls
The East all-stars forced 24 turnovers and beat the West 84-72.
N.C. State recruit Kaila Ealey (Broughton) scored 18 points for the East. Chinyere Bell (South View), who will play at George Mason, had 11 points and nine rebounds.
Norfolk State signee Yazmen Hannah (Hickory) scored 16 for the West.

American Legion
Eastern Randolph beat Randolph County 1-0 on Monday, won their series two games to one and earned a berth in the upcoming state tournament at Newman Park.
The qualifying teams are Rowan County, High Point, Eastern Randolph, Caldwell County, Haywood County, Hope Mills, Wilson and Garner. Some seeds are still being determined.
Ceremonies start July 23. Games are July 24-28.

Erwin football
Erwin Middle School seventh and eighth-grade football sign-ups will be in the lower locker room on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday of this week from 10 until noon. Please bring a copy of your most current physical to put on file.

Youth track
The Hurley YMCA Warriors track team competed in the Charlotte Panthers Meet at Vance on Saturday.
The Warriors will be competing at the East Coast Blount Invitational in Durham on July 24-26.
