Junior Legion Baseball: West Rowan 2-0 in state tourney

West Rowan’s Junior Legion baseball team scored in the seventh inning on a throwing error and edged Dare County 3-2 on Saturday in the state tournament in Granite Falls.
Luke Waggoner scored the deciding run.
“Dare County’s pitching was really good, but we did enough to win,” West Rowan coach Jesse Link said. “We left a bunch on base, but we made enough defensive plays to win.”
Daniel Durham pitched five strong innings. Cole Hales pitched the sixth and seventh and was the winner. West Rowan turned a key double play in the sixth.
Area III co-champs West Rowan (22-10) and Davidson County are the two teams still unbeaten in the eight-team, double-elimination event. They’ll meet at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Brandon Walton will start on the mound for West Rowan.
