Salisbury native, attorney and entrepreneur David Post joined the field of candidates for Salisbury City Council this week.

Post, 66, is an attorney who sold MedExpress Pharmacy in 2014 for a multi-million-dollar sum. He also served as the interim director of the Historic Salisbury Foundation for a time.

Now, Post is running for Salisbury City Council with a bounty of fresh ideas.

“I think this is a big election year, and you don’t get an opportunity very often to really make fresh, big steps,” he said. “I think this is one of those years for a number of reasons.”

Post currently serves on the Salisbury Planning Board, where he says change is evident in Salisbury as various zoning matters move through.

“Government has a tendency to move incrementally, and every once in a while something big happens,” he said, referencing this election cycle.

Post said he has several big ideas about how to transform and improve Salisbury. He mentioned making the city’s fiber optic network — Fibrant — free for all downtown residents and businesses. Free internet, he said, could help fill empty store fronts and attract businesses to downtown.

He also mentioned being proactively engaged with all of Rowan County’s municipalities.

Post received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of North Carolina, a law degree from Duke University and completed the Executive Program in International Business at Georgetown University.

His community involvement includes the Centralina Economic Development Council, serving on the Rowan County Public Library Board, Crosby Scholars, United Way, Salisbury Rotary Club and the Salisbury-Rowan Human Relations Council.

Post has one son and two daughters.
