SALISBURY — Civil War reenactors of the North and South will be on the grounds of the Rowan Museum this weekend, marking the culmination of the museum’s weeklong Civil War History Camp for students.

The public is being invited to meet and interact with the reenactors from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and from 1-4 p.m. Sunday on the grounds of the museum at 202 N. Main St. Special guests are the 28th Regiment North Carolina Infantry Reactivated.

Members of the 28th Regiment also participated in some of the History Camp exercises Wednesday at the Old Stone House in Granite Quarry.

At the museum, visitors will be able to  experiences the lives of Northern and Southern soldiers, see how they dressed, what they ate and how they slept, drilled and relaxed. The reenactors bring to life the sights, sounds and cooking smells of a Civil War camp.

They also perform exercises such as inspections and hold interactive drill demonstrations for children and adults.

Recruitment officers for the 28th Regiment North Carolina Infantry Reactivated will be on hand at the museum in case any visitors want to join the group, which participates in living histories and battle reenactments involving both Confederate and Union impressions at historic places such as Gettysburg,Pa.; Fort Pulaski in Savannah, Ga.; New Market, Va.; Bentonville; Spotsylvania, Va.; Appomattox, Va.; and Petersburg, Va.

Kaye Brown Hirst, executive director of Rowan Museum, said the reenactors’ visit to the museum was scheduled months ago, and a similar re-eanctment weekend with Revolutionary War soldiers is being planned for the future.
