Jason Irving named new Woodrow Wilson Elementary principal

KANNAPOLIS — Jason Irving will become the new principal of Woodrow Wilson Elementary School. The Kannapolis City Board of Education approved his selection during its meeting on Monday. Irving will replace Erik Johnson, who transferred to become principal of Kannapolis Intermediate School on July 1.

Since 2013, Irving has served as the curriculum coordinator at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School. Prior to coming to Woodrow Wilson, he spent two years as the literacy and co-teaching facilitator at Highland Creek Elementary School in Charlotte. He also served as a lead teacher at Mallard Creek Elementary School in Charlotte.

Irving has a strong background in curriculum, instruction, parent communication, analyzing student test results, technology and strategic planning.

Superintendent Dr. Pam Cain says Irving has proven to be an outstanding school leader.

“Jason Irving has done an excellent job at Woodrow Wilson Elementary, and he has earned the respect of everyone on that staff,” Cain said. “He is the ideal person to lead Woodrow Wilson, and I am delighted that he will be moving into his new leadership role. He will do an outstanding job.”

Irving earned his master’s degree in school administration from University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He received his bachelor of arts degree in elementary education and speech communications from the State University of New York Potsdam in Potsdam, New York.

Irving says he is excited to begin his new role as principal.

“I truly feel at home in Kannapolis City Schools and at Woodrow Wilson Elementary,” he said.

“Woodrow Wilson has an amazing staff and students and is a great community school. It also has wonderful parent support. I feel fortunate to be part of Woodrow Wilson, and I am looking forward to continuing to work with everyone here to find even more success for our children,” he added.

Irving will begin his new duties as principal immediately. Kannapolis City Schools has begun the process of hiring a curriculum coordinator for Woodrow Wilson Elementary School.
