Match play in the 37th annual Horace Billings Rowan Amateur golf tournament starts on Friday at Corbin Hills.

Corbin Hills
The Corbin Hills women played their annual Mary Cobb McComb Member-Member Tournament on Tuesday.
The winner of this year’s event with overall low net on a scorecard playoff was the team of Mary Seaford and Kristi Laton
In the First Flight, second low net went to the team of Beth Calhoun and Toni Iossi and low gross went to the team of Becky Isenhour and Blind Draw.
In the Second Flight, low net went to the team of Joy Maughmer and Sheryl Johnson, while second low net went to the team of Eileen Full and Cindy Carmazzi. Low gross went to the team of Monica Green and Ruth Bowles.
Warrior
Ken Clarke made a hole-in-one at Warrior Golf Club, his second ace in less than two months.
Clarke aced the 141-yard No. 6 hole from the blue tees. He hit a 9-iron.

TYGA
Michael Childress won the TYGA junior golf tournament at Forest Oaks in Greensboro with an even par 72 in the 14-15 age group.
Ben Childress won his 11-under age group with a 39 for nine holes. Luke Graeber shot 49-49-98 in the 12-13 age group.
eGolf Tour
In the first round of the eGolf Gateway Tour’s 12th annual Cabarrus Classic at Cabarrus Country Club, Dykes Harbin shot a first-round 63. Salisbury’s Frank Adams III shot 3-under 69 and is tied for 13th.
Crescent
Sixty-three members played in their own foursomes at Crescent.
Low ‘A’ Flight player was Tom Talbert with a net of 64.23. Low ‘B’ Flight player was John Goodman with a net of 63.43.
Low ‘C’ Flight player was Windsor Eagle with a net of 68.53. Low ‘D’ Flight player was Jim Morgan with a net of 67.91.
CPGA
Kannapolis’ Rick Lewallen shot 72-73 — 145 for third place in the Tidewater Senior Open.

American Legion
High Point defeated Eastern Randolph 19-5 in Ramseur on Wednesday to stay alive in a best-of-five Area III semifinal series.
Zach McLean went 4-for-5 with two homers to lead Post 87. Jake Moebius had three hits, and Colin Lipke also homered to back the pitching of Justin Olczak.
Eastern Randolph holds a 2-1 lead.
Game 4 is Thursday at 6 p.m. at Finch Field.

Junior Legion
West Rowan and Davidson County did not play a decisive game in their best-of-three playoff series. The series ended 1-1.
The teams weren’t able to play due to wet grounds on Tuesday at both fields.
The teams agreed to be declared Area III co-champions and both were able to save their pitching rotations for the upcoming state tournament that begins on Friday in Granite Falls.
West Rowan is seeded No. 1 from Area III and will play a 6 p.m. game on Friday against host South Caldwell.
Davidson County takes on Area IV champion Mint Hill in a first-round game in the eight-team, double-elimination event.

Youth baseball
East Rowan’s 10U all-stars won the Western NC Cal Ripken state championship by sweeping Surry County North 9-0 and 8-0 in the best of three state championship series.
East Rowan outscored their opponents 52-3 in the tournament and will begin play in the Southeast Regional on July 22 in Glen Allen, VA.
• East Rowan’s 9U all-stars finished as the WNC Cal Ripken runner-up after losing in the state championship series to Matthews.
East Rowan won the first game 9-8, but then lost two in a row to take second place. East Rowan is now playing in the Southeast Regional in North Augusta, S.C.

Minor leagues
Craig Brooks (Catawba) pitched a scoreless eighth and protected 1-0 lead for the Cubs rookies in a win Sunday in Arizona against the White Sox rookies.
• Joe Peeler (East Rowan) has had three straight scoreless relief outings in Arizona for the Mariners rookies.
