CHINA GROVE — Local business owner Steve Stroud looks to win a second-straight term on the China Grove Town Council.

Stroud, 62, is a Republican and in 2011 won a seat on the town board. He’s currently the owner of Tarheel Safe and Lock. His previous career experience includes serving in the Marine Corps and law enforcement.

He filed for re-election on Monday.

His priorities if elected include ensuring China Grove operates efficiently and fairly for its residents. Stroud also mentioned the town’s land use plan, currently in development, which will require a major overhaul of China Grove’s unified development codes.

“I want to be sure it’s done with common sense, and with our community needs being the priority,” Stroud said about the land use plan.

Stroud has an associate degree in criminal justice and law enforcement. He also has an advanced law enforcement certificate from the State of North Carolina.

Stroud attends Gospel Light Baptist Church in Salisbury, and is a member of the South Rowan Historical Society.

Stroud and his wife Teresa have three sons and three daughters.

He is the only incumbent councilman to file for re-election to the town board. Mayor Pro Tempore Lee Withers chose to run for mayor.
