Area Sports Briefs: Rowan, Davie girls make all-region soccer

All-region soccer teams were announced by the N.C. Coaches Association.
2A: Salisbury’s Ceci Cardelle, Julia Honeycutt
3A: West Rowan’s Claudia Patterson, East Rowan’s Kelby Porter, Carson’s Cassie Howard and Sarah Safrit
4A: Davie’s Brooke Hedgspeth, Katelyn Hernandez and Mary Tellup
1A: Gray Stone’s Erin Ansbro, Annie Habeeb, Wesleigh Harrington, Meghan Hedgepeth, Kelsey Kiser, Kate Sullivan

Intimidators
Friday’s night’s game between the Kannapolis Intimidators and Greensboro Grasshoppers was cancelled due to storms and unplayable field conditions at NewBridge Bank Ballpark.
Friday’s game will not be made up . The teams will play Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m.

American Legion
Rowan County was rained out on Friday.
Rowan plays Davidson County at Newman Park on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Southern Rowan plays at Kernersville on Saturday.

Local golf
In a Tarheel Youth Golf Association tournament at Crescent on Thursday, Charlie Barr shot 4-under 68 and won the 12-13 age group. He had the low score in the tournament.
Michael Childress shot 75 and finished second in his 14-15 age group and third overall. Parker Chavis was third with a 76, and William Garland and Alex Miller tied for 12th at 93.
In the 16-18 age group Ben Rollins finished sixth at 79, Will Casmus shot 80 for seventh, Christopher Queen was ninth at 81, and Andrew Hubbard shot 91 for 18th.
Ben Childress won the 11U age group with a point total of 35. They played nine holes. Golfers got five points for a birdie, three for a par and two for a bogey.
•In the eGolf Tour’s Spring Creek Classic, Will Collins tied for eighth and won $2,700.
Collins shot 67-70-71 — 208 and finished 8-under.
Frank Adams III shot 66-76-69 — 211 and tied for 13th at 5-under. He won $1,900.

Catawba athletics
Catawba placed 110 student-athletes on the SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll with GPAs of 3.30 or higher.

Racing
In the American Ethanol 200 trucks race held in Iowa on Friday, Daniel Hemric (South Rowan) finished eighth in a Chevrolet and won $15,757. Hemric started the race 13th. Erik Jones won in a Toyota.
