Rowan weather: No relief in sight

Rowan is right on the edge of a heat advisory today, with heat indices above 100 degrees. Stanly, Randolph and Montgomery counties and east to the coast are part of the advisory. The heat and humidity could combine to create a heat index as high as 107.

We’ll be sunny and extremely hot, with a high of 98. A light breeze will blow from the northwest at 5-7 mph. Tonight’s low will be 72.

Wednesday’s high will be 84, with a slight chance, 20 percent, of showers between noon and 5 and a chance of thunderstorms after that. The chance of showers and storms goes up to 40 percent Wednesday night, with a low around 70.

Then we’ll have a string of days and nights with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Thursday’s rain if any, will be after 2 p.m., and the high will be up to 96 degrees under mostly sunny skies. The chance of rain Thursday night will be mainly before 10 p.m. The low will be 70.

Friday, the chance of showers is after 1 p.m. The high will be down slightly to 93 and mostly sunny again. The low will be 72, with the same 30 percent chance of showers and storms.

Saturday will be partly sunny and hot, with a high of 94 and the same 30 percent chance of showers and storms. The low will be 72, again, with a slight chance of rain.

Sunday is very similar, with a slight chance of showers during the day, mostly sunny skies and a high of 94. There’s no chance of rain Sunday night, with a low of 72.

The new week brings no relief from the heat, with a high Monday of 95. This time, the chance of storms and showers is 40 percent, but it will be partly sunny.
