A local animal non-profit group plans to smash a pie in the face of a county official or local resident as part of its fundraiser today.

Shelter Guardians will have its “Fur Jam” fundraiser and concert starting at 4 p.m. today at Uncle Bucks, 121 South Main Street in Salisbury. As a part of its fundraiser, the group will pie one of several county officials in the face, depending on the amount of money raised by each. Three bands will play as a part of the fundraiser.

As of Friday morning, County Manager Aaron Church, Commissioners Chairman Greg Edds, Animal Shelter Director Clai Martin,  Commissioner Craig Pierce and Local Veterinarian Dr. Greg Lowe had confirmed participation in the event, according to Shelter Guardians Member Nina Dix. Also participating are Rowan Resident Glenn Hudson and Animal Control Officer Jim Rich.

At its fundraiser, Shelter Guardians will set up buckets with a picture of each participant. Shelter Guardians will collect donations in each bucket. The participant whose bucket contains the largest fundraising total at the end of the event will be pied in the face, Dix said.

The participants may not be present at the event, Dix said. Instead, she said, the winning participant will be pied in the face at a later date, and the video will be uploaded to Shelter Guardians’ Facebook page.

Dix said 100 percent of donations raised during Saturday’s event will go toward helping animals.

Bands that will play during the event include: Atlas Rock Machine, The Mt. Woodland Band and the Throttle Kings.
