A Kannapolis woman at the Rowan magistrate’s office to bail out her husband found herself facing drug charges, police said after she was found sleeping in her car with pills in one hand and a cigarette hanging out of her mouth.

Salisbury Police charged Tabitha Hardin Tarlton, 32, of the 200 block of Bostian Oak Lane, with simple possession of a schedule II controlled substance and and simple possession of a schedule IV controlled substance, both misdemeanors.

She was sitting in the vehicle around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday with the engine still running, a report said.

Once awakened, Tarlton told police she was “very sleepy.” In her hand, officers discovered acetaminophen and hydrocodone pills and upon searching her purse they found Xanax and alprazolam pills.

She remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $1,000 secured bond.
