Don’t spend our tax money on prayer lawsuit

A request of the county commissioners: Please do not misappropriate public funds, which includes my tax dollars, for the legal expenses of your appeal. The expense of trying to establish a government of Christians, by Christians and for Christians should not be the burden of the general public.

A request of the Salisbury Post: please research and tell us the history of membership on the county commission by Jews, non-Christians and people of color, so that we might make an educated guess about when such a person might (again?) sit on the commission and when we might hear a prayer by a Jewish commissioner at the start of their meeting. Thank you.

Editor’s note: As far as we know, Rowan has had one black  person on the Rowan County Board of Commissioners — George Knox — and no non-Christians.

This is all-county?

I was highly disappointed to learn that the East Rowan High School Men’s Tennis Team had only three tennis players chosen for All-County. They are the 3A SPC Champions and were undefeated during regular season.

To find out the obvious disparity between the East Rowan players and the Salisbury players on your All-County list begs a question:  Why would the Salisbury Post select five players from Salisbury, yet only three players from East considering East beat Salisbury, East was undefeated, and East is in a tougher conference?

The non-chosen East players — fourth, fifth and sixth seed players —  even advanced to 3A SPC Regionals. This is an even bigger accomplishment, considering all of their matches were away as East’s home courts were being refurbished and were unusable.

If I realize this obvious oversight and I am not a parent of any of the players, then definitely others will notice this omission of East players to the All-County list as well.

Sports Editor Adam Houston responds: When deciding the all-county teams for tennis, we look at a few criteria. Among those are players selected for the all-conference teams and those that qualified for the regional tournament.

Salisbury had five players selected all-conference and all six players made the regional tournament. I know Addison Fry and Nikolas Pillsbury from East Rowan made the regional tournament as a doubles tandem. They, however, did not make the all-conference team. That was the deciding factor in this case.
