Downtown Salisbury and the surrounding neighborhoods got a whopper of a rain storm Monday afternoon, while other parts of the county remain dry as a bone. The rain came down so hard that streets flooded temporarily, and even the railroad tracks on North Main Street were under water briefly.

Today, we have another 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with cloudy skies and a high of 79. A nearly stationary front will hang around the western part of the state, producing numerous showers and storms, particularly in the mid-afternoon and evening, and especially in the area east of the boundary — that would include Rowan.

Some areas are seeing light rain now. Accumulation will be higher in storms, but around a tenth or a quarter of an inch in regular showers. Tonight’s low will be 60, with a continuing 60 percent chance of showers and storms.

Wednesday, too, has a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms morning and night. Most of the rain will be in the afternoon. Patchy fog is possible in the morning. It will be cloudy and 75. Any storm could produce damaging winds, cloud to ground lightning and hail. The low will be around 60.

The 60 percent chance of rain holds on for Thursday, especially between noon and 3 p.m. It will be cloudy again, with a high of 77. The chance of rain drops to 40 percent Thursday night, with a low of 62.

It’s a 40 percent chance of rain for Friday, too, with most of it in the afternoon. It will be mostly cloudy with a high near 81. Just a 30 percent chance of rain for Friday night, with a low of 63.

The weekend won’t be a washout, but it will be a good time to have an umbrella or raincoat handy. Saturday has a 50 percent chance of rain and storms, but it will be partly sunny and 84 degrees. Saturday night, the chance drops to 40 percent, and the low will dip to 64.

Sunday will be warmer, with a 40 percent chance of rain and storms and a high of 80. Sunday night will have a 40 percent chance of showers and storms, with a low of 64.

The chance of rain continues into Monday, at 30 percent, with a high near 84.
