West Rowan golf coach Ken Clarke made a hole-in-one at the Country Club of Salisbury during the Member/Guest Tournament held over the weekend.
Clarke aced the No. 6 hole from the white tees. He used a 8-iron on the 161-yard hole.
Playing partners Lee Frick, John Kyger, and Andre Resner witnessed the feat.
It was the first hole-in-one of Clarke’s distinguished career.

Legion baseball
Rowan County will make up Sunday’s rainout at Davidson County on Tuesday at Holt-Moffitt Field.
Davidson County won its league opener on Monday by beating Kannapolis 2-1.
Kyle Lowke drove in the run for Kannapolis. Alex Rodriguez pitched a five-hitter but lost.
Dylan Holmes had the key hit for Lexington. Michael Horrell was the winning pitcher.
• Kannapolis is home Tuesday against Southern Rowan.
• Cole Lippincott pitched eight innings as Kannapolis (4-6) beat Concord 11-3 in a non-league game on Sunday.
Lowke drove in three runs for Kannapolis.
Brett Barrier had three hits for Concord.
• Kannapolis scored five runs in the first inning and won 10-3 against Kernersville on Saturday in a non-league game.
Tim Furr had three hits. Caleb Threadgill and David Grimm drove in two runs apiece. Justin Bundy and Trace Hagler combined to hold Kernersville to six hits.

Junior Legion
Carson was rained out at Concord on Monday.
Carson plays Kannapolis at Northwest Cabarrus at 7 on Wednesday and plays a doubleheader at home vs. Mooresville on Friday at 6 p.m.
• Rowan County won in extra innings against West Rowan on Monday.

Intimidators baseball
The Greenville Drive scored in each of the first six innings to overcome an early deficit and beat the Intimidators 10-9 on Monday at Fluor Field.
Kannapolis (24-27) put the tying run on third base with one out in the ninth inning, but couldn’t bring him home.
Greenville chased Intimidators starter Jordan Guerrero from the game during a four-run fifth inning that gave the Drive its first lead. The left-hander entered the game with a streak of 20 consecutive scoreless innings, but the Drive quickly snapped it.
Guerrero (6-1) was activated off the disabled list earlier in the day,
Javier Guerra blasted a solo home run in the second inning, the first long ball Guerrero has allowed all season.
Brett Austin smashed a leadoff triple in the top of the third for Kannapolis to the deepest part of the park, landing at the wall in center field, 420 feet from home plate.

All-MECKA
A.L. Brown outfielders Kameron Sherrill and Damon Johnson were named to the All-MECKA team.
Hough’s Jimmy Cochran was named the league’s coach of the year, while Hough’s Drew Ober was the player of the year. Hopewell’s Tristan Baker was named the league’s pitcher of the year.
Robinson players on the All-MECKA team are Justin Bundy, C.J. White, Mark Perkins and Tyler Kocher.
• A.L. Brown’s Kaylee Cook, Allie Baker and Kaitlin Moore were named to the All-MECKA softball team.
The league’s player of the year was Hough’s Leah Murray. The league’s pitcher of the year was Robinson’s Keleigh Romine.
• AL Brown’s Kelsie Simpson made the All-MECKA soccer team.

HOUSTON — Evan Gattis drove in two runs in a four-run seventh inning and the Houston Astros continued their late-inning magic as they rallied for a 5-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night.
The Astros have scored a major league-leading 94 runs in the seventh inning or later this season.
Brewers 1, Cards 0
ST. LOUIS — Mike Fiers and four relievers combined on an eight-hitter and Carlos Gomez had a first-inning RBI single in the Brewers’ victory over the Cardinals.
Fiers (2-5) allowed four hits in six innings, one shy of his season high, and won for the first time in six starts since May 2 at Chicago.
Cubs 5, Marlins 1
MIAMI — Jason Hammel had a career-high 11 strikeouts in 6 2-3 innings, and the Cubs beat the Marlins.
With his start pushed back because of a cracked fingernail and a rainout, Hammel (4-2) pitched for the first time in eight days, and he seemed to benefit from the extra rest. He allowed one run, five hits and no walks, lowering his ERA to 2.82.
Braves 8, D-backs 1
PHOENIX — Alex Wood pitched eight strong innings as the Braves breezed at Chase Field.
Freddie Freeman homered and drove in three runs. Freeman and Andrelton Simmons had three hits apiece.
