The Salisbury-Rowan AARP Chapter will hold its annual membership recruitment and appreciation picnic on Thursday, June 4, starting at 12:30 at the Rufty-Holmes Senior Center, 1120 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.

A regular membership meeting will follow the picnic starting at 1 p.m. Members are encouraged to bring a guest. Rowan county residents who are 50 years and older are invited to the cookout and stay for the meeting to find out what the local chapter is all about. For planning purposes reservations are required by calling 704-216-7714.

Flag day is in June, so the meeting program will be about the history of the flag, rules and etiquette for displaying the flag, and some trivia to engage the attendees, and to have some fun.

The local AARP chapter meets the first Thursday of each month at the Rufty-Holmes Senior Center in Salisbury starting at 1 p.m. The last meeting of each quarter is a potluck lunch starting at 12:30. The local chapter offers members a variety of community service, education, advocacy and leadership and fellowship opportunities.

The local AARP chapter invites area senior citizens to become a member of the chapter.
