Jewell W. Holland: Alpha Kappa Alpha – Our legacy of love
Published 12:00 am Sunday, May 24, 2015
Through the years, since our birth Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, has exemplified LOVE in various ways. Choosing to uplift mankind, improving the way of life for the masses.
It mattered not how dark the path seemed, we pioneered forward with faith in god, following the lighted pathway He provided. AKS has been blessed with members with many talents, who possessed a dedication to preserve that has been matchless through the ages. We forged our way where others feared to tread.
It was LOVE for other, which propelled us into action; LOVE illustrations of AKA’s involvement moved us into diverse areas, for we believe in helping each others and others. We also believe in following our Lord’s commandment, “LOVE Ye One Another”, a vital part of our sisterhood. Our gifts are varied and are meant for sharing.
Each member has a place in the grand symphony of service. Some are more prominent than others, but all are essential in carrying out our tasks. We have pledged ourselves, our faith to this cause.
AKA has shown LOVE in areas that will leave an indelible imprint in time. Some of these areas are embracing progressive ideas, enriching minds, changing humanity, and influencing political decisions, which is what LOVE is all about.
We have proven to be true “Pearls”, beautiful, talented, resourceful all strung together with determination and LOVE, prevailing at times against numerous odds.
What will be the epitaph of Love for Alpha Kappa Alpha? What will the “dash” say? LOVE for each other and others. Alpha Kappa Alpha will be known through the ages for having shown LOVE and being LOVED.
On Saturday, April 18, 2015 the members of Delta Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. met to celebrate the chapter’s anniversary. The theme was, “Celebrating 68 Years of Service and Sisterhood” in the Rowan-Salisbury and surrounding areas. To commemorate the chartering of the chapter and to represent the chapter in submissions of original writing from the Mid-Atlantic Region, Jewell W. Holland, chaplain, penned this piece.
