More than 1,100 gallons of water, about 10,000 pounds, were delivered to the Miller’s Ferry Fire Department Friday following a donation from the Mooresville plant of Niagara Water.

The delivery was organized by the Wallace and Graham Law firm, who is representing many of the neighbors of Buck Steam Station with contaminated well water.

The water is intended for any resident of the Dukeville community who has a well declared unsafe for consumption by the state. Water also being distributed to residents of the area who haven’t yet received test results back.

Each family can receive approximately 15 gallons of water to start. The fire department’s facility at 2650 Long Ferry Road has full-time staff present on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for nearby residents to pick up water.

The shipment of water from Mooresville comes as Duke Energy is running a water-delivery program to Dukeville residents. Some residents haven’t yet received Duke’s promised allocation of water. Others haven’t received test results back.

Duke says it will deliver water to residents near its coal ash facilities every two weeks, and provide enough water to use about one gallon per day. The one-time delivery from Niagara provided more water per day, per family than Duke’s planned delivery system.
