EAST SPENCER — This year’s Let’s Get Connected Day promises a host of entertainment and activities. It will be held at Royal Giants Park.

Covenant Community Connection is hosting the annual event on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the park, located at 200 Robinson Road. Covenant Community Connection is a fellowship of concerned citizens of Salisbury/Rowan committed to being a multicultural voice helping to foster unity and harmony in the community. The Salisbury-Rowan Human Relations Council committee also co-organizes the event and others throughout the year.

Music will be provided by North Rowan Connection. The Triple Threat Dance group and North Rowan High Dazzling Emeralds will dance. Also, attendees will have the opportunity to hear the history of the Royal Giants baseball team. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. There will be free food and refreshments provided by Workers of the Vineyards and Faith Temple Triumphant Ministries.

The Covenant Community Connection will install a Peace Pole at the site. The pole displays the message and prayer, “May Peace Prevail on Earth,”  written in several languages. There are Peace Poles in nearly 200 countries all over the world, and they serve as reminders to pray for world peace.

Since 2007, the Covenant Community Connection has been dedicating peace poles in Rowan County at various locations including Dan Nicholas Park, Kelsey Scott Park and in Granite Quarry.

This year’s Peace Pole was paid for by the town of Granite Quarry, which received a pole last year. East Spencer hopes to in turn fund next year’s Peace Pole.

“This sets a precedent of generosity and good will and exemplifies the kind of cooperation we hope will prevail in Rowan County,” said Betty Jo Hardy, of Covenant Community Connection.

Hardy said this is the first time in several years the event has received a proclamation from the county.

Also at the event:

Fleming Otey, Chief Holy Eagle, is calling all Native Americans and others who can wear their international costume regalia for group photos at the Peace Pole prayer and drum circle. The honors include — Yadkin, Uwharrie, Sioux, Saura — also known as Cheraw — Guatari, Navajo, Kiawah, Choctaw, Creek, Cherokee, Catawba. Lumbee and Yakama. Also encouraged to participate are those of Asian, European, African and Hawaiian ancestry.

The event is sponsored by Salisbury-Rowan Human Relations Council, F&M Bank, Cheerwine and Food Lion.
