KANNAPOLIS — Cabarrus County Meals on Wheels will have its annual fundraiser June 6.

The 6th annual Ducktona Dash will be held at Frank Liske Park in Concord, 4001 Stough Road, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. The annual event raises money for the nonprofit that delivers hot meals daily to senior citizens and homebound people.

Leading up to the Ductona Dash, people who donate $35 can have a “flock of ducks” placed in their yard for a 24-hour period in order to raise awareness about the event. The flock is large, plastic ducks, 14 to 16 in number.

The main event at Ducktona Dash is the rubber-duck race. The first 40 finishers in the race win prizes, including $750 for first place, $500 for second place and $250 for third place. The rest are eligible for a variety of prizes ranging from spa packages to Nascar Hall of Fame tickets.

For the race, single ducks cost $5 and five ducks cost $20. The race is the main fundraiser at the event, which is free to attend.

There will also be an Arts and Crafts Festival with more than 50 vendors, a car show, kids’ zone and a DuckBeauty Pageant — for decorated rubber ducks. The ducks for the pageant cost $50. The winner of the Best Decorated Duck contest wins a Community To Go meal for 12 from Jim ‘N Nicks BBQ.  Organizations and businesses can purchase a duck for the pageant.

The Kids’ Zone will have bounce houses, games and activities, face painting and a duck coloring and drawing competition.
