Police say a Faith man was charged with trying to pass a photocopied prescription as an original at Moose Pharmacy.

Brandon Lee Smith, 29, of the 2000 block of Gardner Street, was charged with felony obtaining controlled substances by fraud or forgery and felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a controlled schedule II substance.

Someone at the pharmacy, located at 1408 W. Innes St., noticed the prescription didn’t seem real. Police officials said Smith went to the pharmacy on Wednesday and attempted to use a prescription for 180 roxicodone pills.

Pharmacy personnel said Smith had already filled a prescription for 180 roxicodone pills prior to Wednesday.

Smith told police he got the prescription from the doctor and he believed it was an original. However, investigators said they could see a distinct mark where it appeared the original prescription paper had been folded in half.

Smith was issued a $2,500 secured bond and has since been released from the Rowan County Detention Center.
