SALISBURY — The Rowan Museum’s yearlong award-winning exhibit: “Over There, Over Here: Rowan Remembers World War I” will close May 10.

The Rowan Museum joined with other N.C. museums to celebrate the centennial of “The Great War” and the memories of those who fought and suffered its horrors.

The purpose of the exhibit has been to honor local, state, national and international involvement in the war. Visitors have seen items from the war, as well as having had the opportunity of walking through a recreated World War I trench.

Local teachers have remarked that their students’ treks through the trench have marked in their minds the type of warfare used in World War I. This is the public’s last chance to learn more of how local soldiers and their families lived and died in the “War to End All Wars.”

The exhibit recently received the Award of Excellence for an Exhibit from the North Carolina Museum’s Council.

Items have been added to the exhibit throughout the past year.
