Celebrate Independent Bookstore Day May 1-2

May 2 is National Independent Bookstores Day and Literary Bookpost will celebrate with a bevy of authors.

The weekend starts Friday night with David Oakley, author of “Why Is Your Name Upside Down?” from 5:30-7:30 p.m. It will coincide with First Friday events, the night downtown merchants stay open late and offer special events for customers.

On Saturday, festivities will begin at 11 a.m., with brunch foods served by Dr. Tim O’Lenic, whose new cookbook is “Breakfast at Timothy’s.” He will sign his books and meet readers until 1 p.m. O’Lenic is an anesthesiologist and critical care physician who has been working in a kitchen since age 14.  he has a keen interest in e others live as healthily as possible.

Poet Mary Kratt will be at the Bookpost from 1-3 p.m., with her new book of poetry, “Watch Where You Walk.” Poet Anthony S. Abbott reviewed her collection.

From 2:30-4:30 p.m., E.K. Smith, author of a new children’s book series, “Alien Dude” will come to convince young boys that reading is cool. Snacks will be provided. She will read to the children attending.
