Area Sports Briefs: Rain wins again

Rain wiped out virtually every outdoor sports activity on Monday.

The SPC Golf Championship at Corbin Hill was pushed back to Thursday.

North Rowan’s big baeball game with West Davidson for first place in the CCC was postponed until 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Earnhardt Day

Dale Earnhardt Inc.’s  Dale Earnhardt Day will be held  Wednesday, April 29, at the DEI Corporate Headquarters in Mooresville.

A celebration of the   life and legacy of Dale Earnhardt, this event is held annually on his birthday, and has become a time to reflect on the accomplishments of Dale, and share favorite memories and stories.

An annual tradition of Dale Earnhardt Day, cupcakes will again be provided to in honor of “The Intimidator’s” birthday.

DEI will be welcoming guests from 10 until 5.  Admission is free, and plenty of parking is available.  Dale Earnhardt Inc. is located at 1675 Dale Earnhardt Highway 3, Mooresville.

College golf

Catawba’s men’s golf team is 10th after the first round of the SAC Golf Championships on Monday in Marvin, N.C.

Catawba shot 319. Tusculum shot 295 and leads the event.

Jordan Taylor shot 76 to lead the Indians on Monday. Matt Hardman shot 78.

• UNC Greensboro is in second place after two rounds of the Southern Conference Championships  in Pinehurst.

Senior Roy Dixon (Salisbury) is tied for 11th overall at 1-over 145. Dixon shot 73 Sunday and 72 Monday.

College football

Tyler L’Hommedieu made 11 tackles in Army’s Black-Gold Spring Game.

College tennis

Livingstone’s Shondra Redfern was named to the All-CIAA team.

The sophomore had 11 singles wins, including 10 in CIAA matches.

College signings

Salisbury track standout Jaleesa Smoot signed with North Carolina Central on  Monday.

South Rowan basketball standout Cassidy Chipman will sign with St. Andrews on Friday.

Two Carson baseball players have made college decisions and will make it official on Friday.

Lefty pitcher/outfielder Heath Mitchem will be a Catawba Indian, while infielder Matt Saul is headed to Lenoir Community College.

Minor leagues

The Kannapolis Intimidators were rained out on Monday and have scheduled a doubleheader against the West Virginia Power for Tuesday.

The first game will be at 5:05 p.m. Gates open at 4:30 p.m.

• Kannapolis’ Jordan Guerrero has been named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week.

The lefty  struck out 11 in six innings last week and is 2-0.

Prep soccer

Gray Stone rolled 6-0 against Queen’s Grant.

Laurie Fogleman and Annie Habeeb scored two goals each, while Kate Sullivan had two assists.
