Learn more about bees; swap plants

Two free workshops on backyard pollinators and beekeeping will be offered:

• Bugs, Bees & Butterflies, Tuesday, April 28, 6 -7 p.m.

Sue Davis, Master Gardener and glass artist, will talk about the importance of pollinators to your yard and the environment. You’ll learn how to install a pollinator garden and go home with plants to get you started and a list of others to include. Randy Cox, president of the Rowan County Beekeepers Association will be on hand to answer your bee questions.

• Urban Beekeeping, Tuesday, May 12, 6-7:30 p.m.

This workshop will be led by Randy Cox, president of Rowan County Beekeepers Association. Attendees will learn the difference between honey, carpenter and less beneficial bees. You’ll see a Mason Beehouse, a honeybee hive and learn about why bees are so important to the environment and food supply. You’ll also learn how to start your own backyard beekeeping project.

The Master Gardener Plant Sale will be May 2, 8:30 a.m. to noon at 2727 Old Concord Road, Salisbury. Named day lilies, shrubs, perennials, vines and ground covers will be available. Master Gardeners will be on hand to help with selections.

Join the Plant Swap at 10 a.m. Bring three plants, no more than two of the same thing, and swap them for someone else’s pass-along plants. There will be a garden item silent auction. All of the proceeds from the sale will benefit the Rowan County Extension Horticulture Program.
