Surely Rowan does not allow smoking in parks

The writer is responding to a letter in the April 5 Post, “A better path for kids’ health?”

Nice try, Mr. Harwood!

We in Rowan County are wise to the folly of your riddle and leading questions.

You would have us believe that some of our adjacent county parks might be more diligent in the enforcement of their health and safety regulations. You imply that Rowan County officials might be less diligent toward everyone’s health and safety in and around our county parks, libraries and government facilities.

This can’t be true!

I recently read in the Salisbury Post that Rowan County commissioners and other officials are seeking new ways to encourage businesses and industry to relocate in Rowan County. These county officials understand that a healthy citizenry and safe environment are good business. They would not condone the lack of enforcement of stated regulations.

You imply that these efforts are being subverted by the few and are overlooked by our government officials. Our impression would be that these officials are allowing a minority of patrons to dictate policy for the majority. That posted signs concerning no smoking are confusing, contradictive or just not enforced.

This can’t be true!

If this were so, we might choose to drive a short distance and patronize neighboring, tobacco-free county parks. We might even go shopping, dine out, buy fuel and take care of other business while visiting these neighboring county parks. We might even encourage our family and friends to do the same.

Nice try, but you can’t fool us.
