All three U.S. Representatives with districts extending into Rowan have filed statements of candidacy for re-election with the Federal Elections Commission.

U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-5, filed her statement of candidacy in January. Reps. Alma Adams, D-12, and Richard Hudson, R-8, filed statements this month. All three filed for re-election in the 2016 campaign cycle. The FEC requires candidates to file a statement of candidacy in order to raise money for the 2016 elections.

Foxx, 71, first took office in 2005. Foxx has a challenger in Patricia Curran, a Republican from Kernersville.

When asked about her statement of candidacy, Foxx said she wasn’t focused on campaigning. The filing deadline to be placed on the ballot is in February.

“Today I’m focused on serving the people of the 5th Congressional District,” Foxx said in an emailed statement. “While I do not plan to make an announcement regarding my candidacy before North Carolina’s candidate filing period opens next year, I fully anticipate that I will run for reelection in 2016.”

Foxx’s campaign committee leads the trio of Rowan incumbents in fundraising. As of March 31, Foxx’s campaign committee had $2.08 million in cash on hand, according to FEC records.

Adams, 68, was elected to Congress in November. She did not return requests for comment, but at a March fundraiser for the Rowan Democratic Party, Adams public mentioned her intention to run for re-election.

The latest electronically FEC records — Dec. 31 — show Adams’ cash on hand at $23,091.

Hudson, 43, first took office in 2013. An announcement distributed Wednesday by Hudson’s campaign stated that his campaign account contained $506,148.83 in cash on hand, as of March 31 of this year.

When asked about his statement of candidacy, Hudson said: “Serving my neighbors in the Eight District is truly an honor and a privilege, and I’m eager to continue my work to strengthen our economy, cut spending and return control back to North Carolina and away from Washington.”
