2015 Student Art Expo

Submitted

“Art Around the World” was the theme of this year’s Student Art Expo at the Salisbury Civic Center. The show is sponsored by The Carolina Artists and the Civic Center. Rowan/Salisbury schools and many private schools participated. Art teachers began submitting student artwork on Wednesday, March 18, and the reception and awarding of ribbons took place on Thursday evening. Genevieve Martin, co-chair, expressed gratitude to Carolina Bottling Company for providing Cheerwine, to The Carolina Artists volunteers for installing the show, and to the staff of the Civic Center. Ms. Kelly Feimster and Samantha Anderson, school coordinators, helped to make the show a success.

As soon as the show opened, crowds began filling the Center which, in carrying out the theme, was decorated with flags from many countries. Expressions of appreciation of dedicated art teachers and of the originality of the students’ entries were heard throughout the evening. The beautiful and thought-provoking artwork was evidence of the  creativity of participating students.

In addition to the art show, students were invited to participate in two workshops. “Look and Learn” allowed students to see art from various countries and to know the different principles of art upon viewing it. The “Flag-Making” workshop gave students the opportunity to assemble their own flag with materials provided.

Special thanks to well-known artist Betty Sedberry for judging this year’s artwork. Genevieve Martin announced the winners of the show. Connie Peninger, co-chair, presented each winner with special art gifts.
