ROCKWELL — The East Rowan Diamond Sports athletic league will host a “Strike Out Cancer” fundraiser for David Earnhardt on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Rockwell Elementary baseball field. The field is located beside the school.

Earnhardt, 46, was diagnosed in December with prostate cancer. He is a veteran with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and is the former president of East Rowan Diamond Sports.

“This event is a way to give back to someone who gave so much of his time to us,” said current president Ricky Slaydon.

He said Earnhardt is expected to attend the event, which will include league baseball and softball tournaments. There will be a 50/50 raffle and silent auction. Organizers will have grilled hamburgers, hot dogs and concession items available.

The cost of admission to the event is $2. The admission fee and all proceeds for the day will help defray Earnhardt’s medical expenses.
