U.S. Rep. Alma Adams, D-12, will headline a Rowan County Democratic Party fundraising luncheon on Saturday.

The fundraiser will raise money for the county’s Democratic Party, to secure an office in downtown Salisbury, said Chairman Geoffrey Hoy. Adams will be the speaker for the luncheon.

The party is selling tickets at $100 each for an advance meet and greet with Adams, which starts at 11 a.m. The cost to only attend the luncheon, which starts at noon, is $30.

The fundraiser will be held at The Heritage Room on East Council Street in downtown Salisbury.

Posted earlier this month, an announcement for the event states the party is looking for a downtown headquarters to give the party a visible presence in the community, a centralized location for group and caucus meetings, starting new groups within the Democratic Party and a headquarters for the 2016 election.

The Democratic Party currently holds its meetings in the Rowan County Administration Building on West Innes Street. Some of its individual group meetings are held in other locations, such as the Rowan County Library’s headquarters.

Adams was elected in November to take the spot once filled by former U.S. Rep. Mel Watt, who resigned in January 2014 in order to run the Federal Housing Finance Agency. Adams won the 12th district race by a hefty margin, garnering about 75 percent of the vote. Her district snakes from Guilford and Forsyth counties to Charlotte. Adams’ district includes a portion of Rowan County.
