The seventh annual Salisbury Sculpture Show, “Discover What’s Outside,” starts this week.  In all, 19 sculptures are being installed around the downtown and on the four college campuses — Catawba College, Livingstone College, Hood Theological Seminary and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. All of the sculptures will remain in place until January 2016.

A special selection committee of local artists and enthusiasts selected the pieces for their artistic quality and diversity of theme, form and materials.  Selected artists come from five states, as far away as Michigan and Connecticut.

The show has gained a following over the years, both locally and around the state. Visitors from several other North Carolina cities have toured past years’ shows with the idea of hosting a similar event in their own towns. The governor has credited the show as innovative and an idea that should be spread around the state.  Among others, Hillsborough, Durham, Cornelius and Asheboro now host sculpture shows, building North Carolina’s reputation as a destination for arts and cultural tourism.

The Salisbury Sculpture Show is free and accessible to all. A detailed brochure of the Show will be available in mid-April at the Visitors Center, Rowan Public Library, college campuses and at restaurants and shops in the downtown.
