Area Sports Briefs: Carson soccer wins 1-0 at West

Carson’s soccer team beat West Rowan 1-0 for a South Piedmont Conference win on Friday.
Sarah Safrit scored the goal off a corner kick by Cassie Howard early in the second half.
Goalkeeper Megan Bolick’s epic save against a direct kick in the final minutes of the game, keyed the victory.
Carson won for the first time at West Rowan. Hannah Smith, Alex Allen and Mia Trexler were other standouts for the Cougars.
Carson is at South Rowan on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
• In Gray Stone’s 7-0 win against Covenant Classical, Annie Habeeb scored three goals, and Kate Sullivan had two.
Prep softball
Davie County improved to 3-0 with 5-0 win against South Stokes.
Olivia Boger and Sarah Myers combined on two-hitter. McKenzie Barneycastle and Jessie Beck led the offense with three hits each.
Prep baseball
Noah Sharpe was the winning pitcher in West Davidson’s 4-3 win against Central Davidson on Friday.
Tyler Hunt and Justin Freeman had two hits each for the Green Dragons (4-0).
College hoops
GRU Augusta guard Keshun Sherrill (West Rowan) has been named to the All-Southeast Region team as well as the All-Peach Belt Conference team.
College swimming
Catawba’s Sebastian Holmberg finished 14th in the 200 backstroke on Friday at the Division II Swimming & Diving Championships at the IUPUI Natatorium.
College lacrosse
Catawba women’s lacrosse team dropped a 16-7 decision at Mount Olive on Friday.
Nicolette Salay scored three goals for Catawba (3-3).
