Two men were arrested on multiple charges after a car chase through Salisbury Thursday morning.

Claude Jay Boyd, 21, and Dequan Chalk, 20, were arrested after Chalk drove away from an attempted traffic stop and led police down several streets before finally skidding off the road.

Police stopped the 2000 Nissan Maxima the men were in — Chalk was driving — around 10:20 a.m. near West Lafayette and North Main streets after running the license plate and seeing that the registration was revoked. When the officer got out of his car, Chalk drove off.

Chalk, who wasn’t the owner of the car, drove down West Lafeyette, turned left onto North Fulton Street and then right onto West Kerr Street, followed by a left onto North Ellis Street. Chalk  then took a right onto West Liberty followed by a left onto North Caldwell Street and then a right onto West Council Street.

A left onto North Craige Street had Chalk heading toward West Innes Street, where he blew through a red light. Now on South Craige, he went through two stop signs before making a right onto West Thomas Street, which becomes Old Plank Road.

The car skidded off the road where Old Plank Road curves sharply to the right and becomes Williams Road. Chalk then backed his car into a police car, and the chase ended.

Chalk got out of the car, saying he didn’t have a gun, according to police. He was arrested.

Boyd was in the back seat. There were also two Salisbury High School students in the car. They were not charged and were taken back to school by a school resource officer.

Police found 4.8 grams of marijuana in the car along with digital scales and $1,000. There were also 37 rounds of 9mm ammo, two .357 Magnum rounds, empty ammo boxes and several marijuana joints, including one that was in salad.

Police also found a 9mm handgun on West Lafayette Street that had been tossed from the car. Police were also told that two jars of marijuana were thrown from the car, but police did not find the jars.

Nobody was hurt during the car chase.

Chalk, who is from East Spencer, was charged with reckless driving, fleeing arrest, carrying a concealed gun, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without a license. He was booked on a $30,000 bond.

Boyd, from Salisbury, was charged with resisting an officer, possession of marijuana. He was booked on a $15,000 bond.

Both men were also charged with communicating threats to police.
