Woman facing felony drug trafficking charges arrested

Less than a week after Rowan authorities enlisted the public’s help in finding a local woman facing federal drug trafficking charges, she’s been arrested, officials said.
Melanie Ann Pruitt, 39, was arrested Saturday morning and remains in the Rowan County Detention Center without bond.
Pruitt and boyfriend, Robin Lee Guest, 50, are accused of selling, from July to October, large amounts of meth to undercover investigators. Officials said the two shipped the drugs from Salisbury to California through the U.S. Postal Service.
Guest has been indicted on federal drug charges and is presently in federal custody. Guest was arrested on the campus of Catawba College, while Pruitt was arrested inside a rented residence, hiding in a closet.
According to information from Catawba College, Guest worked for the college, was first suspended from his job, then terminated. He rented a house from the college, but was evicted following his arrest.
During the investigation, law enforcement seized a total of 155 grams of methamphetamine “ice” valued at $31,000. Investigators said Pruitt has pending charges in Rowan County Superior Court on a charge of habitual felon. She also has previous felony convictions for financial card theft and three counts of possession of cocaine.
No other details about Pruitt’s arrest were immediately available.
