It’s Dogwood Time

Once again it’s time for our annual Dogwood Tournament.   This is a three day event held at Rufty- Holmes Senior Center beginning Friday March 13 going through Sunday March 15.  Bridge players from Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Highpoint, Thomasville, Charlotte, Statesville and Morganton to name just a few, converge on our town to enjoy a weekend of fun, competition, and food. The players are also exposed to our beautiful, historic town.  Many are so impressed that they return to explore our area at a later date.  Tournament sessions are held Friday March 13 at 1 PM and 6:30 PM, and continue Saturday at 10:00 AM and again at 2:30 PM.  Sunday there is the Billy Burke Swiss Teams event beginning at 10:00AM continuing until 5 PM with a hot meal half-way through.  If you love to play, get a partner and join us.  Tournament and Partnership chairs are John and Myrnie McLaughlin 704-636-9781 or www.mworld@fibrant.com .

The David Goffs had the best N/S score bidding 4H*S making 5 while Charlie and Marnie Buchta had the best E/W score bidding 4SW making.  Once West doubled N/S’s  Heart bid, East with a weak hand and being vulnerable was reluctant to raise partner to 4S which would have been the best E/W move.

Tuesday March 3 Women’s Club game winners were: 1st Gloria Bryant and Maggie Canup, 2nd Ron and Shirley Jeffers, 3rd Marie Pugh and Loyd Hill.

If you have never experienced a tournament, this is a friendly and easy way to give one a try.  Plan to join us at the Dogwood Tournament March 13-15.
