GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Sara Hammond matched a season high with 20 points and No. 10 Louisville held on to beat No. 15 North Carolina 77-75 in overtime on Friday night in an Atlantic Coast Conference quarterfinal.
Freshman Jamie Cherry sent the game into overtime with a 40-foot heave at the regulation buzzer but missed a long 3 at the final horn.
Myisha Hines-Allen had 17 points to help the third-seeded Cardinals (25-5) win their ACC tournament debut.
They will face No. 7 Florida State (28-3), the tournament’s second seed, in a semifinal on Saturday.
Stephanie Mavunga added 12 points and 16 rebounds for the sixth-seeded Tar Heels (24-8).
No. 16 Duke 77, Wake Forest 68
GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Kendall Cooper scored 21 points and No. 16-ranked and fourth-seeded Duke proved too much for 13th-seeded Wake Forest, advancing in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament with a 77-68 win on Friday.
Duke faces top-seeded No. 2 Notre Dame, which defeated eighth-seeded Miami 77-61 on Friday, in the semifinals on Saturday.
Cooper’s three-point play just before halftime put Duke up 36-21 at the break.
Wake Forest’s Dearica Hamby scored 26 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, her 44th career double-double.
No. 7 Florida State 82, Virgina 43
GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Shakayla Thomas scored 17 points in the Seminoles’ 82-43 rout of Virginia Tech on Friday night.
Thomas, a freshman who earlier this week was selected the ACC’s sixth player of the year, came off the bench and finished her postseason debut 8 of 10.
Maegan Conwright and Leticia Romero added 11 apiece for the second-seeded Seminoles (28-3), who have won six straight and 15 of 16.
No. 2 Notre Dame 77, Miami 61
The top-seeded Fighting Irish avenged their only ACC loss in two years Friday by beating Miami 77-61 in an ACC quarterfinal.
ACC player of the year Jewell Loyd scored 16 points, and league freshman of the year Brianna Turner had 13 points and 10 rebounds to help the Irish (29-2) win their 15th straight game.
The Irish will face 16th-ranked and fourth-seeded Duke (21-9) on Saturday.
Jessica Thomas scored a career-high 24 points and Jassany Williams had 16 for the eighth-seeded Hurricanes (19-12).
