Rowan County Sheriff’s deputies charged a Salisbury couple following an initial call of a domestic disturbance at their Neel Road home. The incident occurred Sunday, a report said.

The deputy spoke to a woman who initially called law enforcement about an assault that occurred at the home. However, when authorities arrived at the home, the male refused to come to the door.

When the deputy said he was responding to an assault call, the woman told the deputy nothing happened and no call had been made. The 911 telecommunications confirmed a call had been made, said Sheriff’s Capt. John Sifford.

Cody Ryan Fox, 18, was charged with misdemeanor resist, obstruct, delay an officer, and his girlfriend, Mary Kate Basinger, 34, was charged with misdemeanor misuse of 911.

Fox and Basinger were each given a $1,000 secured bond and have since been released from the Rowan County Detention Center.

Fox was charged two weeks ago by Salisbury Police when he led them on a short vehicle chase after other motorists were alerted by the accent lighting on his pickup. When he stopped, authorities said he told them he was trying to catch up to his wife to tell her he was being pulled over by the officer.

The officer found a smoking pipe, marijuana residue and 10 grams of a synthetic marijuana material called Zembio Bizarro Cherry Flavored Spice in his pocket. He had to be shocked with a Taser because he refused to be handcuffed in that incident, authorities said.
