North Rowan boys basketball coach Andrew Mitchell knows his conference.

After North Rowan beat Salisbury  in a first-round playoff game on Friday, people tried to assure Mitchell his next opponent would be Randleman.

Mitchell kept shaking his head.

“Maybe,” he said. “But we’ll wait and see. West Davidson has a good team.”

West Davidson finished fifth in the six-team CCC and is seeded 30th in the 2A West bracket, but the Green Dragons beat No. 3 seed Randleman 60-49 on Saturday.

The upset meant a second-round home game for the Cavaliers, and now they’ll take on a familiar opponent Monday at 7 p.m.

The Cavaliers (17-6)  won 54-40 and 70-51 vs. West Davidson in the regular season. Joseph Scott scored 20 in the first meeting. Josh Handy, who is out with an injury, led the Cavaliers in the second meeting with 17 points.

  South Rowan’s 10th-seeded girls (18-6) play at No. 7 Crest (21-2) at 6 p.m.  in a 3A second-round game on Monday.

Crest beat Sun Valley 80-73 in the first round. South Rowan won easily against Asheboro.  The winner will travel to play Weddington (27-1) in the third round.

• East Rowan’s girls are in the third round after wins against North Henderson and Pisgah. The Mustangs travel to Asheville Erwin Tuesday at 6.
