The Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education has called a special meeting for Tuesday to discuss several time-sensitive matters.

“We had other things that kept creeping up,” said Chairman Josh Wagner, adding that some of the things couldn’t wait for the board’s work session on March 9.

The board will receive an update from Assistant Superintendent of Operations Anthony Vann regarding construction of the central office.

Vann said he will ask the board to approve assignment and assumption contracts for Ramsay, Burgin, Smith Architects, Inc. and Barnhill Contracting Company.

At the board’s last meeting, they approved an agreement that gave the piece of land in the 500 block of N. Main Street to the county so they could finalize the loan for the project.

The assignment and assumption contracts will allow the school system to continue to direct the companies as they continue to provide services throughout the construction process even though the land is owned by the county, Vann explained.

“That was one of those things we need to get done as soon as possible,” Wagner said.

The board will also consider East Rowan High School’s student council’s request to attend the North Carolina Association of Student Council State Convention in Fayetteville scheduled for March 20-22.

Wagner said there are two closed session items also on the agenda – a student transfer issue and a personnel issue.

The board will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the district’s executive offices, 314 N. Ellis St. in Salisbury.
