Area Sports Briefs: Catawba women roll

Catawba’s women’s basketball team won 64-43 against Queens on Wednesday at Goodman Gym.
Jada Huntley scored 15 points for the Indians, and Chloe Bully added 11.
Eleven players scored for Catawba. The Indians won easily despite shooting 32.7 percent.
Catawba (16-10, 13-8 SAC) is fourth in the league, has clinched a tournament home game and closes the regular season at home against Lincoln Memorial on Saturday.

Catawba baseball
Catawba’s baseball team used six pitchers and won 8-4 at Pfeiffer in a makeup game on Wednesday.
Connor Johnson worked into the fifth inning. Avery Bowles (1-0) got the win. Ryan McClintock picked up his second save.
Will Albertson and T.J. Wharton powered homers for the Indians (9-3) at Ferebee Field. Albertson’s three-run homer in the second got the Indians started and they led 5-1 early.
Luke Setzer (East Rowan) and Grayland Fowler had two hits each for the Indians.
Former Indian Anthony Allende knocked in two runs for Pfeiffer (10-6). Dylan Goodman (South Rowan) had two hits.
Prep basketball
A few first-round playoff games were played on Wednesday.
Davie’s girls won 51-34 at home against Porter Ridge.
Madison Zaferatos scored 14 for the War Eagles (18-6).
De’Jah Joyner scored 11 points. Ashlyn Hampton and Aubrianna Peebles added nine apiece.
Men’s hoops
Livingstone’s men make their debut in the CIAA tournament on Thursday when they take on Lincoln at 7 p.m.
LC’s Hakeem Jackson was honored as the league’s newcomer of the week.
•GRU Augusta’s Keshun Sherrill (West Rowan) scored 21 points Wednesday in a 88-69 win against USC Aiken.
China Grove sign-ups
China Grove youth baseball/softball has extended the registration deadline until March 7.
Register at Dale’s Sporting Goods.
Skills Day will be moved to March 14.
