Literacy Council sets training session; two complete training

The Rowan County Literacy Council will hold a three-session tutor training workshop in the Hurley Room of  Rowan Public Library.

The first and second sessions will be held Monday, March 16 and Monday, March 23 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The final session will be Saturday, March 28 from 9 a.m to 3 p.m. The registration fee for these sessions is $25.

In order to be certified as a tutor, participants must attend all three sessions.

Reservations for the workshop may be made by calling the literacy office at 704-216-8266 or by emailing rclc@rowancountync.gov by Wednesday, March 11.

Two complete literacy training

The Rowan County Literacy Council has completed a workshop for new tutors. The workshop was conducted by trainers Cindy DeLorenzo, Clyde Harriss, Carolyn Myers and Helen Peacock.

The training is for non-professional people who would like to help others improve their reading skills or to teach English as a Second Language to foreign-born residents.

Tutors completing the course were Rachel Hunter and Cindy Oakes.

The Literacy Council offers tutoring services to any adult 16 or older. Anyone wanting to receive tutoring help should call the Literacy Office at 704-216-8266.
