A Rockwell man was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly stealing a car and assaulting firefighters.

John W. Harmon, 28, 215 Shinn St., was arrested on charges of resisting a public officer, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by felon, larceny of a motor vehicle, larceny of a firearm, three counts of assault on a government official and communicating threats.

Warrants for Harmon state that late Saturday night he allegedly stole a Ruger Rifle and Ford Taurus car. As he attempted to drive away with the car, warrants state that a chain was wrapped around an unnamed man’s arm and attached to the car. The man Harmon allegedly dragged with the car owned the stolen rifle. Harmon was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon following the incident because he had previously been convicted of larceny.

During the same incident Saturday night, Harmon allegedly assaulted three firefighters from the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department. Warrants state Harmon also allegedly threatened one of the firefighters who was assaulted.

Harmon was charged with resisting a public officer after attempting to pull away from a sheriff’s deputy while being arrested.

Jail records show Harmon remained in jail Sunday afternoon on a $52,500 bond.
