CHINA GROVE — Rowan County Sheriff’s investigators have not said why they believe a China Grove man shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself.

Officials said family members found Kimberly Allen, 40, and her husband, Steven Allen, 47, dead inside the master bedroom at their 579 Eudy Road home. Investigators said Steven Allen shot his wife in the head and then shot himself in the head.

Investigators said family members went to the home on Sunday afternoon and knocked on the front door, but did not get a response. The family removed a back door of the home and found the couple. Family members backed out of the home and called law enforcement, said Sheriff’s Capt. John Sifford.

Investigators arrived at the home just after 2 p.m. Sunday.

The initial incident was brought to the attention of law enforcement because Kimberly Allen’s parents had not heard from her or her husband since Wednesday. The parents had called the home several times, but had not gotten an answer.

Sifford said investigators believe the deaths occurred sometime on Wednesday or shortly thereafter.

Detectives were able to find information and evidence to indicate that Steven Allen killed Kimberly Allen and then himself. The incident is still under investigation. It is not clear if the couple were having marital problems.

Investigators said Steven Allen was having some medical issues for which he had been undergoing tests and was being treated by a doctor. It is not clear what type of medical issues Allen was experiencing. He had been depressed over his medical condition, investigators said.

Officials said based on emergency communication call history, law enforcement had never been called to the home for any domestic incidents or other disturbances.

A Post reporter spoke to several people in the China Grove area, and many of them said they weren’t familiar with the couple and did not know the family.

Sifford said Steven Allen did not have a significant criminal history. He was issued a criminal summons in February 2014 following a road rage incident.

Allen told officers then he was driving when a vehicle drove up behind him traveling fast. The driver came around him and flipped Allen off, a report said.

Officials said Allen was actually the aggressor and the victim told officials Allen was following him. The victim said he could see Allen mouthing words and waving his arms around. He said Allen pulled out a weapon that the victim believed to be a 9 mm handgun.

Allen was issued a criminal summons, which is similar to a warrant, for assault by pointing a gun.

Steven Allen worked at Regional Finance, 811 S. Jake Alexander Blvd. Regional Finance employees declined to comment.

Jeff Hall, friend of both Kimberly and Steven Allen said he’s known the couple for 10 to 15 years. He’s known them so long he doesn’t recall where he actually met them.

Hall said he’s known the couple for their whole “married life.”

The Allens’ home is situated near the end of Eudy Road, Hall said, surrounded by a few relatives. Hall also lives on the same stretch of Eudy Road, which is located near the Food Lion and West Lawn Memorial Park cemetery.

“I knew the Stampers and they are all fine people,” Hall said of Kimberly Allen’s family.

It is unknown what Kimberly Allen did for a living, but Hall said she worked from home.

“There is nothing to say (to the family) that can take away their pain,” Hall said.
