… Is Zaxby’s our canary?
The proposed location is within an established, heavily medical-oriented business park. Fast food does not fit the existing use. There is more truth to the story than the Salisbury Post and John Leatherman are stating here for why the Zaxby’s location is in dispute. Rowan County Economic Development and new business are great, but there are proper locations for every business, and this is not the location for a “spot zoned” fast-food business.
Let’s not blame the existing business owners for shooting down further business development. This is really a bad location considering the existing use, and really bad planning.

I drive through this area (like many area residents) a couple times each day. Recently, each time I pass by the proposed location, I try to picture the existing Zaxby’s sitting in the spot. I just can’t see it, nor can I see how the traffic flow would work with the small (yet headache-causing) intersection.
However, when I look down the road not even half a mile, I see an empty spot between McDonalds/BP and Porky’s that would be a much better fit.

…Lyme disease present in Rowan
My girlfriend has had lyme for years. She was misdiagnosed because she didn’t present the “typical” symptoms like the rash. Her primary care doctor at the time even dropped her from his practice once they realized it was lyme and told here there was nothing that he could do. She hasn’t been able to find a doctor to properly and aggressively treat it …

I encourage everyone to watch the documentary “Under Our Skin: The Untold Story of Lyme Disease.” It’s an eye-opener on just how horrific this disease can be and how uneducated not only the general public is about the disease but also those in the medical field. It also goes into the politics of the disease and treatment of it.

… Salisbury ahead of curve, hoopla for fiber
The competition is coming and they have deep pockets. Salisbury will be unable to compete pay its debt and survive. You can take that to the bank. New city council 2015!
— Chris Borre
Stay out of private sector jobs
— Kevin Womble
Google must lay 6,000 miles of fiber optic cable before its system is up and running. It’s going to take Charlotte five years before it begins service. Why should Salisbury wait for major corporations to deliver a needed utility to the city and county? It’s a utility, not a business designed to compete with other entities.

… Restaurant, more stores coming to Shoppes at Summit
Maybe that Super Target will show up, also.
— Walter Randolph
Great, more businesses coming in of which we already have more than enough. Why not a TGIF instead of another Mexican restaurant?
And another mattress place? Why not a Best Buy? What’s next…..another Walgreen/CVS, Subway or BBQ joint?
— Brandon Bush
Salsarita’s is not a sit-down, full-service Mexican restaurant like Poncho Villas, Case Grande and El Patron. Rather, they are a fast casual burrito chain, like Chipotle and Qdoba. Very similar to Go Burrito … and for the obvious reason that we modeled ourselves after this popular concept. (And then we added a bar, a roof, nightlife, fish tacos, a salsa bar and we grill our burritos.)
— Mikey Wetzel
Glad to see the economy is growing. Looking forward to Hobby Lobby and Kirkland’s.
— Donna Green
Jobs… that’s a good thing.
— Kristin Kober
What we do need is a Super Center Target. And Lane Bryant.
— Wendy Anne Wenck
We need an Indian restaurant!
— Korey Deese
Why not a Red Lobster, a Chili, a TGIF, a Best Buy? I can think of many more businesses that we need …
— Nancy Jarrell
All we need is a Target, then we’re good to go!
— Kelley Bozarth
Please, please, please, don’t let any of the chains come to downtown. … Are there any ordinances etc. in place so that that doesn’t happen?
— Patsy Flint
It’s about time county commissioners and “old money” start to let these bushiness into the county

… Inspirational teachers, then and now
I remember diagramming those sentences in Mrs. Stoessel’s class. A couple of years later, I had a teaching assistant block, in which I helped grade papers. Mrs. Stoessel also helped when I had questions about French. She was a brilliant, caring member of the teaching profession. And I am certain she was one of many who are dedicated to their students and the profession.
— Jeff Morris
Great tribute to Mrs. Stoessel and teachers everywhere.

… MLK and the importance of remembering
Aside from it being human nature for young people to think history isn’t relevant, I think there’s another, more sinister reason for the fact that young people aren’t encouraged to attend events held to remember Dr. King.
Dr. King’s primary message was predicated on the movement for all people, regardless of race or party, to rise above racism, and this has been largely accomplished.
The ambition of the left is to negate this tremendous progress and still pretend that the black race cannot succeed without the sympathy and pity of the white race.
— Steve Pender
… Crossing the aisle
I have to say that I agree with you 100 percent.
— Travis Allen
I always read the David Post columns. I am starting to feel positive about the new additions to the county commissioners and I hope we will gradually see great changes for Rowan County.
— Maxine McDaniel
It looks and sounds like Greg Edds dumped the Tea Party. This is a good sign and he seems to be a man with a plan. We will see.

… My take on litter and the people who toss it
I feel your pain. I deal with litter bugs almost every day on Hwy. 150. … (They should) put a Food Lion plastic bag in your car, like I do, and fill it up. Throw it away in a trash can.
These morons that toss their trash in my ditch should have to spend their weekends walking up and down the roads picking up garbage. It would certainly suit them because that is what they are, garbage.
— Kellie Martin
… Salisbury man dies following weekend moped crash
From what I’ve learned, the majority of moped drivers do not have a driver’s license. They should not be allowed to drive anything on the road. Sure hope there will be restrictions on mopeds being on the road. They are a hazard.
— Michael Williams
A man lost his life. Who cares what he was driving? He has family that is left behind.
In 2013 my son was murdered on cold blood and no one was even charged. Let this family mourn and let us focus on what is most important.
If this was you, would you be worried about loss of life or using it to lead others in another direction, like church perhaps?
— Laurie Redman
Mopeds are certainly a hazard, and it’s true that most moped drivers are without a license.
I agree on the need for restrictions. But right now I find it sad that this man lost his life, and I pray for his family and his fiance during this difficult time.
Also, I feel badly for the lady driving the car, even though it wasn’t her fault, it must be difficult for her.
— Ron Scruggs
…West End Plaza, budget among topics on planning retreat agenda
The budgeting for the mall will be interesting as it will illustrate the leanings of the new Commissioners and whether they plan to make a change or dump more money into this colossal folly.
— John Blair
… Vaccines should be a must
Really? Are we at this point?
— Karen Puckett
Part of the problem is people coming into this country without vaccinations. We need to do like they did with Ellis Island and be sure people are vaccinated when they enter our country. When anyone from our country goes to another country they take vaccines before they go.
— Janie Kluttz
Stop giving the reader of your paper orders,Post. You’re the provider of services. We are your customers.
Service providers do not tell customers what to do. Are we clear on that, or is further elaboration required? You have the right to advise, but consent is entirely within our realm.
As a matter of fact, I did see that my children were vaccinated, but realizing that SOME children have adverse reactions to some vaccinations,
I kept my peace about what others should do. I heartily suggest you follow the same guideline.

… Salisbury Fire Department restoring former South Main Street station
As a retired Assistant Fire Chief for Salisbury, I’m glad to see our old station 2 back in the hands of the fire department where it rightfully belongs.
— Rick Fesperman
Wouldn’t it be nice if something similar could be done to the South Lee Street station? For some reason, every project there has been a non-starter.
— Todd Paris
I am so happy to see this fire station being restored. My husband, who grew up on the corner of Mitchell Avenue, has told me many tales about spending time at the old fire station and the service station that used to be beside it as he was growing up.
